Terra Towns

A community website where users deploy personal sites ("Terra Houses") with Terraform.

Terra Towns

What changed

  • Each user deploys a personal site from their own Terraform code, and it joins the TerraTowns network.
  • The provider and platform can be developed and tested locally against a mock server.

What I worked on

  • I worked across the custom provider and the AWS side to provision each site end to end.
  • I organized the project to make onboarding easier for developers.

TerraTowns takes after the self-hosted spirit of Geocities. It started as a hands-on Terraform bootcamp: each "Terraformer" writes Terraform code that sets up and deploys a simple CMS, their "Terra House".

Behind it are a custom Go provider, AWS (S3, CloudFront and Lambda), and a Ruby mock server for local development.
